Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drug Abuse Prevention/Intervention Program
This program provides alcohol, tobacco and other drug abuse prevention education and intervention services to students. School counselors and social workers at all ³ÉÆ·ÈËÊÓƵ Unified schools are available to support this program.
Referral, Screening and Support
- Referral of students who are suspected of using or who have concerns about their use or a friend/loved one's use of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs
- Self-referral is encouraged.
- Referral of students who violate the district alcohol, tobacco and other drug policies
- Screening and individual counseling
- Support to help students address chemical abuse
- Parent and community agency communication to address concerns
Prevention and Intervention Education
Prevention education takes place in schools by classroom health teachers, counselors and social workers.
- Middle schools utilize Project Alert and Ripple Effects
- High schools utilize health courses in grade 10
High schools have counselors trained in Prime for Life. Prime for Life is an evidence-based motivational prevention, intervention and pretreatment program specifically designed for people who may be making high-risk choices. This four week program is specifically used for students who have violated the district policies regarding alcohol and other drug abuse.
